MELTING FURNACE – IHMISYYDEN AHJO
Sulatusuuni sanan ei-kuvaannollisessa merkityksessä. Siellä on ennen kaikkea helvetin kuumaa. Siitä näyttely.
Taustalla on silti myös vertauskuva. Puolet taiteilijoistamme tulee Los Angelesista. Kuuminta hottia. Toinen puoli Suomesta. Ultima Thule.
Verkostoitumisestahan tässä on kyse. Ja hieman muustakin. Verrattavissa parisuhteeseen. Ei siitä mitään tule elleivät ne sisimmät kohtaa. Ja kun rakkaus tulvii yli rajojen, se sisin nousee toiseen potenssiin.
Näyttelyn teema purkautuu ikiaikaisessa dilemmassa järjen ja tunteen välillä; kulttuuri kontra luonto. Vuonna 2023 tämä näyttää täysin toiselta kuin romantiikan ajan maalaustaiteessa. Eikä syynä ole mikään taiteen paradigma, vaan luonto itse ja ihminen siinä sivussa.
Mennyt talvi siirsi ennätyssateineen vanhan hitin “It Never Rains in Southern California” historiaan. Ja historiaan uhkaa siirtyä myös ihminen, sillä maailma muuttuu.
Mutta mihin suuntaan. Ehkä voimme vaikuttaa siihen, kohtaamalla toisemme ja toiseutemme. Ihmisyyden ahjossa.
MELTING FURNACE – TO FORGE A COMMUNITY
A melting pot in the non-figurative sense of the word. First of all, it’s damn hot there. That’s the show.
Of course, there are layered meanings here. Half of our artists come from Los Angeles. A hot climate. The other half come from Finland. Ultima Thule.
After all, this is about networking; and a little bit more. Just like an intimate relationship, nothing will come of it unless the innermost ones meet. When a connection transcends borders, the innermost comes to the fore.
The theme of the exhibition unfolds in the ancient dilemma between reason and emotion; culture versus nature. In 2023, this looks completely different from the romantic period of painting. This is not due to any paradigm of art, but nature itself aside from the human being.
Last winter, with its record rainfall, the old adage “It never rains in Southern California” became irrelevant. The future of mankind is also at risk, because the world is changing.
But in which direction? Maybe we can influence it, by facing each other and our otherness. To forge a community.
